Description

The Direct Buried Double Armor Double Jacket Fiber Optic Cable GYTA53 is specifically designed for direct burial, allowing it to be buried directly in the ground without the need for extra protective ducts or conduits. This feature simplifies the installation process and reduces infrastructure costs. The fibers, 250μm, are positioned in a loose tube made of a high modulus plastic. The tubes are filled with a water-resistant filling compound. A steel wire, sometimes sheathed with polyethylene (PE) for cable with high fiber count, locates in the center of core as a metallic strength member. Tubes (and fillers) are stranded around the strength member into a compact and circular cable core. The cable core is filled with the filling compound to protect it from water ingress, over which a thin PE inner sheath is applied. After the PSP is longitudinally applied over the inner sheath, the cable is completed with a PE outer sheath.

Applications for Oil & Gas Pipeline Monitoring

The double armor double jacket structure of GYTA53 makes it a preferred cable for direct burial along long-distance oil, gas, and product pipelines. The aluminum–steel laminate armor resists crush from backfill and soil pressure, while the dual PE sheath provides long-term moisture and chemical resistance against groundwater and hydrocarbon-contaminated soil.

  • Long-haul pipeline fiber backbone: Buried alongside oil, gas, refined product, or slurry pipelines to provide telecommunications and supervisory links between pump stations, valve stations, and terminals.
  • Distributed fiber-optic sensing (DTS / DAS / DSS): Continuous temperature and acoustic monitoring for leak detection, third-party intrusion, and pipeline integrity, using a spare fiber in the GYTA53 as the sensing medium.
  • Station and valve-area interconnection: Direct-buried runs between RTU/PLC cabinets at well pads, metering stations, and block-valve sites where surface cabling is impractical.
  • SCADA and emergency backup link: Resilient secondary path for SCADA, cathodic-protection monitoring, and emergency communication when primary wireless or surface links are unavailable.
